Manor house

DESCRIPTION

Civil building integrated into the historic ensemble of Puebla de Alcocer, representative of 17th-century residential architecture linked to locally prominent families.

HISTORY

The House of the Arévalo forms part of the urban development of Puebla de Alcocer during the 17th century, a period in which several residential buildings associated with families involved in the social and economic life of the municipality were consolidated.

Its stylistic relationship with the Casa de los Chacones allows it to be placed within the same period of construction, characterised by the appearance of houses with greater attention given to their façades and with a certain representative intention, although without reaching the monumentality of noble buildings. Over time, the property has maintained its residential use, preserving its identity within the traditional urban fabric.

It is a manor house that constitutes one of the examples of traditional civil architecture linked to the former affluent families of the town. Its façade presents characteristics similar to those of the well-known Casa de los Chacones, which is why it is considered a construction dating from the 17th century.

The building particularly stands out for the ornamental treatment of its façade, decorated with reliefs and ceramic tile decorative elements integrated into the exterior wall surface. Unlike other manor houses in the town, it does not preserve visible heraldic coats of arms, although it maintains an architectural composition clearly linked to the noble architecture of the Modern Age. The building is currently in a good state of conservation and continues to be private property.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC DESCRIPTION

The façade presents an elaborate composition, featuring reliefs and decorative elements, as well as ceramic tile details that enrich its external appearance. These features place it within a domestic architecture of higher construction quality compared to other traditional dwellings.

Unlike other contemporary buildings, such as the Casa de los Chacones, the building lacks a heraldic coat of arms, indicating a lesser connection with titled nobility. Likewise, its simpler doorway reinforces its character as the residence of a wealthy family without aspirations to noble representation.

The construction solutions respond to traditional techniques, creating a building well integrated into the urban environment and representative of the municipality’s civil architecture during the Modern Age.
