HISTORY

Thesculpture“Hellforthe Fallen”wascreated around 1960 by the Extremaduran sculptor Juan de Ávalos, in a context in which public art was beginning to acquire a relevant role in shaping urban spaces. Its installation in Casas de Don Pedro reflects the progressive incorporation of sculptural elements as part of the local cultural heritage, expanding the traditional concept of a monument beyond historic buildings.
Since being installed in its new location, the work has remained linked to one of the municipality’s busiest spaces, integrating into everyday life. Over time, it has acquired additional symbolic value, becoming a landmark of contemporary heritage and an example of the presence of nationally renowned artists in rural Extremadura.

The choice of bronze as a material reinforces its durability and its presence in public space, allowing its integration into the urban environment.
Itslocation, in a highly frequented transit area, helps reinforce its role as a visual and symbolic landmark, establishing a dialogue between contemporary art and public space.
