DESCRIPTION

Museum space dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of traditional household items, conceived as an interpretation centre for everyday life, trades and historical customs of Castilblanco and its surroundings.

HISTORY

The Ethnographic House Museum of Castilblanco emerged as an initiative aimed at preserving the memory of the town’s traditional ways of life, in a context of progressive social transformation and the loss of rural lifestyles.

Its creation responded to the need to collect and highlight objects, tools and testimonies linked to traditional activities, allowing the recent history of the municipality to be reconstructed from an everyday perspective.

The museum, which remains closed, has been linked to different spaces within the urban centre, having been located in the surroundings of the Perchel neighbourhood, one of the areas that best preserves traditional architecture, reinforcing its coherence as a space for interpreting local heritage.

HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC DESCRIPTION

The museum was configured as an exhibition space focused on traditional material culture, where utensils, tools and elements linked to domestic life, agricultural activity and craft trades were displayed. Its interest did not lie in the architecture of the building itself, but in the content it housed and its interpretative function.

Through these elements, visitors could understand how life in the rural environment was organised, from agricultural tasks to household dynamics, establishing a direct connection with traditional neighbourhoods such as Picocerro and El Perchel, where examples of this way of life are still preserved in some old houses. The ensemble falls within a typology of local ethnographic museums conceived as tools for cultural dissemination and the preservation of collective identity.

RELEVANT FIGURES RELATED TO THE POI

The museum is not linked to a specific individual figure, but rather to the inhabitants of Castilblanco as a whole, whose contribution through the preservation of objects, traditions and knowledge has made the existence of this space possible.

Its relevance lies in representing the local community as the custodian of a cultural heritage transmitted from generation to generation.
