DESCRIPTION

The Hermitage of the Virgen Coronada is located about three kilometres from the urban centre of Talarrubias, in the direction of Casas de Don Pedro, in an open setting of great scenic value known as the Llanos de la Virgen.

The ensemble stands out for its pleasant exterior layout, surrounded by a low arcade and landscaped areas, making it a place frequently visited both for its religious interest and for its value as a space for walking and social gathering.

HISTORY

The hermitage was built in the 16th century, forming part of the ensemble of rural hermitages that historically existed in Talarrubias, many of which have disappeared over time.
Today, it is one of the best-preserved and most visited hermitages, due both to its condition and to its central role in the religious life of the municipality.

HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC DESCRIPTION

The building follows a combination of Gothic and Mudéjar styles, following a construction scheme similar to that of other hermitages in the town, such as the Ermita de San Roque.
Its architecture is simple and functional in character, adapted to the rural environment, yet incorporating elements typical of the construction tradition of the period. The value of the ensemble is reinforced by its integration into the surroundings, especially the arrangement of the perimeter arcade and the landscaped outdoor spaces.

NOTABLE FIGURES RELATED TO THE POI

No specific figures linked to its construction are documented, its historical and social relevance being the result of popular devotion to the image it houses.

MOVABLE HERITAGE

Inside is preserved the image of the Virgen de la Coronada, patron saint of Talarrubias, which constitutes the principal devotional element of the municipality.
During the period between 23 August and 8 September, the image is transferred to the parish church, remaining in the hermitage for the rest of the year.

INTANGIBLE HERITAGE

The hermitage is the centre of the patron saint festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Coronada, held annually between 23 and 27 August.
During these days, processions, religious celebrations, open-air dances, popular festivities, and recreational and sporting activities take place, constituting one of the most important moments in the local festive calendar.
The transfer of the image, community participation and the emotional connection with this space reinforce its role as a symbol of identity for Talarrubias, where tradition, religiosity and social life intertwine.
