DESCRIPTION

The Mirador de las Eras is a viewpoint located in the town of Risco, in the comarca of La Siberia, from which views of the natural surroundings and the urban centre itself can be enjoyed, characterised by its location on a steep slope.

It is an enclave linked to the municipality’s traditional landscape and to the open spaces surrounding the town.

HISTORY

The recent creation of the viewpoint has made it possible to establish a new tourism resource for use as a point of observation and enjoyment of the surrounding environment.

HISTORICAL-ARTISTIC DESCRIPTION

The Mirador de las Eras, located near the urban centre of Risco, is one of the municipality’s most outstanding panoramic points and a privileged enclave for observing the characteristic landscape of the La Siberia Biosphere Reserve. From this space, visitors can enjoy a broad view of the natural surroundings of the locality, marked by mountainous relief, dehesa landscapes and the presence of water as a structuring element of the territory.

The views allow visitors to contemplate wide sectors of the Embalse de La Serena, whose sheet of water integrates into the mountainous landscape, creating one of the most recognisable panoramas in this eastern area of the province of Badajoz. On clear days, it is also possible to distinguish singular landscape landmarks in the surroundings, including the area of Cerro Masatrigo, considered one of the comarca’s most characteristic silhouettes due to its distinctive conical shape.

The viewpoint is also configured as a suitable space for landscape interpretation and contemplation of the territory, allowing an understanding of the relationship between population centres, mountain ranges and the large reservoirs that transformed the landscape of La Siberia during the 20th century. Its elevated and open location favours a broad vision of the surroundings and makes this point one of the most representative places from which to appreciate the natural and territorial dimension of the municipality of Risco.

INTANGIBLE HERITAGE

The surroundings of the viewpoint have been used as a meeting point for activities linked to environmental awareness, such as events organised within the framework of the La Siberia Biosphere Reserve, aimed at conserving the natural environment and promoting the sustainable use of the territory.
