DESCRIPTION

The Town Hall of Tamurejo is located in the Plaza Mayor of the town, constituting one of the municipality’s main administrative, institutional and social landmarks. Its presence organises the urban space and shapes the nerve centre of daily life, in dialogue with other representative elements such as the parish church and the traditional houses.

It is a building that, without losing its functional character, is fully integrated into the architectural ensemble of the urban centre, characterised by the sobriety and harmony of traditional mountain architecture.

HISTORY

The municipality of Tamurejo, historically linked to the County of Siruela, obtained the title of villa in the mid-18th century, from which time its own administrative structure became consolidated.

Since then, the Town Hall, as an institution, has been the axis of local administration, responsible for the political, economic and social organisation of the municipality. Inside it is preserved the municipal archive, which safeguards the documentary memory of the locality, although part of the oldest records were lost due to a fire.

HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC DESCRIPTION

The building follows a traditional architectural style, in harmony with the urban environment in which it is located. Built with materials typical of the area, such as whitewashed masonry, it presents a simple and functional aesthetic, far removed from great ornamental pretensions.

Its value lies not so much in singular artistic elements as in its integration into the urban landscape and its role as a representative piece of the town’s civil architecture. It forms part of an ensemble where traditional buildings coexist with others of a more contemporary design, maintaining a visual balance characteristic of the rural settlements of La Siberia extremeña.

NOTABLE FIGURES RELATED TO THE POI

The Town Hall has been linked to the political and administrative history of Tamurejo, serving as the headquarters of the different municipal corporations that have managed local life over time, although it is not associated with specific figures of individual historical relevance.

MOVABLE HERITAGE

Inside the Town Hall are preserved documentary collections from the municipal archive, constituting an important movable heritage linked to administrative management and the history of the municipality. These documents, although partly affected by historical losses, represent the institutional memory of Tamurejo.

INTANGIBLE HERITAGE

The Town Hall is the principal space representing the municipality’s public life, where administrative, social and festive events that structure local coexistence take place. Likewise, its location in the Plaza Mayor makes it a usual setting for celebrations and traditions, reinforcing its role as a symbol of collective identity and a community meeting point.
